UBQ000202:  UltraBac in a Workgroup

UBQ ID Number: UBQ000202
Last Modified: 2012-12-12

Summary:

This article describes how to use UltraBac, and particularly authenticating through the UltraBac Management Service, within a workgroup.

Details:

The user must be consistent, using the same password for all machines in the workgroup.  The global user ID and password is specified in "Manage"/"General"/"Authentication Options"/"Accounts."  When adding an account, the following should be entered for the Default account:

When entering the account information for the Default Account, the Domain field should be left blank. This will force UltraBac to log on locally (log on to the backup host) using the account specified.

It is necessary to create an account entry on the backup host for EACH computer being backed up. Again, the domain field should be left empty. When entering the remote computer account, it is necessary to specify the name of the computer as well.

The following selection box will open when entering the second account into UltraBac. This is where you specify the machine being backed up.

When configuring UltraBac, do not use an IP address for the license server - ALWAYS use the Windows computer name. You can do this using DNS or WINS.  If neither is present use the HOSTS file, located in '%WinDir%\System32\Drivers\etc'.

Use the following format when making entries into the HOSTS file:

IPADDRESS [TAB] COMPUTERNAME.

Example:

127.0.0.1    localhost

10.1.1.1     Backupserver

You will need to install a full version of UltraBac on each of the machines you are going to backup. On each of the machines, you will need to go into "Manage"/"General"/"Authentication Options"/"Accounts" and add an account for the backup server, so there is authentication for two way communication.
