  • Do I need a license?

If you are a Version 6.x UBSafe (not Sorry) user, you do NOT need to request a license.

If you are requesting a permanent license for version 6.x, 7.x, or 8.x please ensure that your accounting department has submitted payment for the software in advance. Permanent licenses are only issued after your invoice has been paid.

You need to fill out the Online Registration Page here if:

    1. You have paid for UltraBac software and have not yet received a permanent license.

    2. Your evaluation license is about to expire and you need more time to evaluate UltraBac.

UltraBac downloaded software and CD copies have a 45-day evaluation license. At the end of this 45-day period:

    1. Versions 7.x and 8.x will expire to 'Restore-Mode Only' if UltraBac is installed on an NT/2000/XP/2003 Workstation.

    2. Versions 6.x, 7.x, and 8.x will expire to 'Restore-Mode Only' if UltraBac is installed on an NT/2000/XP/2003 Server.

    3. Version 6.x will default to 'UBSafe (not Sorry)' if UltraBac is installed on a NT/2000/XP/2003 Workstation.

    4. 'UBSafe (not Sorry)' is only available for personal use with version 6.x. You may not use 'UBSafe (not Sorry)' in any corporate environment.

What type of license do I need?

There are two main classes of licenses:

    1. Permanent. These licenses are to be based on a specific computer name.
These licenses are only issued after your invoice has been paid.

    2. Temporary. These licenses are typically issued as the Enterprise edition with all of the Extra Cost Options enabled. We give all temporary licenses a period of 30 days. These licenses will need to be approved by the sales representative that you have been speaking with. If you feel as if you need longer than the standard 30 days, please explain your reasons for this on the Notes section of the Registration page.

The Version 5.x or Version 6.x Auto-Register Link File does not result in "Successful Verification."

**You must have UltraBac Version 5.04 or later in order to use the Auto-Register function. Versions 7.x and 8.x do not use this function.**

When you double-click on the Auto-Register link file, you receive the message

This can be resolved using one of three methods:

    1. You can attempt to execute the Auto-Register Link file with the proper permissions. Only two things are necessary in order to receive the message "Successful Verification&qupt;: A. Local administrator permissions on the machine you are attempting to license, and B. Permissions to execute programs in the 'UBPROG' share. This share typically looks like \\COMPUTERNAME\UBPROG

    2. You can also enter the licensing information manually. This can be done by selecting HELP/ABOUT/LICENSE from the UltraBac menu. Enter all of the information exactly as shown. If you have problems, see here.

    3. You may have requested the license for the incorrect computer name. Please return to the online registration page to apply for another license.

**For Versions 5.x and 6.x Only**

    1. Please ensure that all information is entered exactly as shown. This includes spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and spacing.

    2. Please ensure that the edition, version, and options are identical to the listings in the license that you received.

    3. If any of the information that you received is incorrect, please re-enter the licensing information in the online registration page. The previous information should remain "in your browser" due to the cookies that are active on our Web site.

    Description of the License Process.

    1. Fill out the form on the online registration page. You can find a similar screen by going to Help/About/Licensing from within UltraBac. Be sure to include your customer number if you have one.

    2. Your information is sent to us via email. Once your request has been approved, an email is sent back to the address provided when you filled out the form. This email will have a auto-registration link attached in most cases. This link runs encoder.exe on the machine that you wish to license and will complete the license for you in most cases. See here if you have problems with this.
