VERSION 4.X

Version 4.11h Build 6/10/1998

  • 4.11g omitted the ubmount.sys file necessary for restoration of individual files from an image backup. You can fix this by downloading 4.11h. You only need this file if you have the Image option.

  • Bug fix that causes an intermittent Dr. Watson on the alpha platform when printing a detailed log while using software compression.

Version 4.11g Build 5/20/1998

  • New Setup automatically stops "BEI Scheduler" if running.

  • New autoloader drivers fixes various autoloader problems.

  • Fix of problem when using compare/verify and a file is detected with a CRC error.

  • During installation of the service, security of the "BEI Scheduler" is changed so that any valid user may start/stop this service.

  • It is no longer necessary to mandate Mixed/Integrated security modes with the SQL agent (although you may continue to use either).

  • If you wish to use Standard Security, you must create a new registry entry to tell UB what the "sa" password is:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\BEI\UltraBac\sapassword:REG_SZ.

Version 4.11f Build 4/14/1998

  • Fix where CRC errors were reported when the option "Compare to Disk During Verify" was selected.

  • Fix with detecting and working correctly with certain autoloader devices.

  • SQL Agent now able to restore the MSDB and MASTER databases easier (giving much better error messages).

  • Font size Issue: If you install the software on a screen with resolution smaller than 1024x768, the default will be 12, otherwise it will be 14.

Version 4.11e Build 2/18/1998

  • When a set exceeds 1.2 million files, a log entry will be recorded in the backup log and event log.

  • Fix for individual file selection in Exchange sets.

  • Win95 agent improvements for making reliable connections to Win95 machines.

Version 4.11d Build 2/9/1998

  • Support for up to 1.2 million files per backup set and 100,000 directories. (This number was previously 600,000 files and 80,000 directories per set.)

  • Fix for making recovery diskettes (the vga850/vgaoem problem). If you have used 4.11c to make the recovery diskettes, users can simply rename the vgaoem.fon file on floppy #2 to vga850.fon. Version 4.11d corrects this problem.

  • New feature added:
If you select "select/incremental/last ?? days" and enter a NEGATIVE number then this means "select files that were modified exactly this many days ago" rather than "select files that have been modified SINCE this many days ago."

    • Examples:

      • A value of 0 means "select files modified today."

      • A value of 1 means "select files modified since yesterday."

      • A value of -1 means "select files modified yesterday" (explicitly excludes files modified today).

      • NOTE: If a backup that includes multiple sets is started late in the evening and continues past midnight, some sets processed prior to midnight will be effectively using a different selection logic to sets that may run post-midnight.

Version 4.11c Build 1/16/1998

  • Fixes for QIC/Travan drives ("Rewind" errors).

  • Fixes for autoloader devices.

  • Support added for generating disaster recovery floppies from non-US NT CDs.

Version 4.11a Build 11/19/1997

  • Fix compatibility with QIC tapes that span multiple media.

  • Allow compatibility with the new autoloader driver that will ship with UltraBac 5.0. It is important that you copy the new medchg.sys file into your (winnt)\system32\drivers if you already have the autoloader driver installed.

Version 4.11 Build 11/6/1997

  • Allow stand-alone image license for image backups/disaster recovery license without regular file backups.

  • Allow "Personal Edition" to run in a networked environment, but prevent remote-client backups.

Version 4.1z

  • Bug fix when restoring an image with the disaster recovery floppies where "Fatal Tape Error" message is displayed after a successful restore.

  • Removal of error display during registry backup when encountering profiles that belong to unknown accounts.

  • Add registry value "ProcessTimeout," which defines in minutes how long to wait for a before/after job to complete before considering it an error condition.

Version 4.1y

  • Bug fixed when password protecting media caused corruption of password field.

  • Exitcodes added to UB.EXE to allow interpretation of the status of an UltraBac run so that the appropriate action may be taken by a batch file.

  • Ability to mount a tape image backup as a virtual disk device to allow individual file/directory restore.

  • Bugs fixed in the Win95 agent which prevented archive attribute from being cleared, file dates from being restored, and paths from being created.

  • Bug fixed in the Backup/New/Network dialog that prevented Win95 sets from being created.

  • Documentation added to \ultrabac\recover\readme.txt to add support for non-standard PCMCIA SCSI controllers for disaster recovery.

  • Bug fix when restoring an Exchange Information Store to a different server, the wrong machine's services are stopped, preventing the restore.

Version 4.1x

  • SQL Agent modified to handle odd-sized packets correctly when SQL Server is remote.

  • Version 2.0 of Win95 Agent included.

  • Improvements made in tape positioning logic which will aid in performance

  • If 10 unexpected errors occur during the verification of a set, that set will be aborted (and an error written to the verification log) and the process will continue with the next set.

  • Verification will now be able to handle bad data correctly which used to cause the verification process to abort with a Dr. Watson report.

  • No error messages will be displayed if UltraBac is unable to create shares used for remote management (e.g. LSAOpenPolicy or AssignShareName errors).

Version 4.1w

  • Improved logic for handling the ejection of removeable media devices.

  • Improved disaster recovery components which prevents error message being displayed at end of successful restore (this used to happen with certain disk configurations). Added support for the new 5.0 UltraBac tape format in readiness for the next release of UltraBac.

  • Fixed bug in UltraCopy utility that could prevent hardware compression from being correctly enabled on destination media.

Version 4.1v

  • Bug in SQL Agent fixed. It is important to download this version if you are using the SQL Agent.

  • A bug in the new VC5 compiler caused the software compression ratio to be printed incorrectly, and a workaround has been added to compensate for this problem.

Version 4.1u

  • Image agent/disaster recovery for Alpha processors added.

  • Improved logic for connecting/disconnecting to remote Win95 computers. Passworded shares no longer need a map drive letter.

Version 4.1t

  • A value "ForceLocalBackupOnly:REG_DWORD" may be created in the registry to disable network backup facility. This will allow UltraBac to initialize much more quickly with the Single Server and Workstation Editions of the software.

  • Corrected problems encountered with individual files greater than 4GB in size.

  • Fixed some SQL Agent restoration problems.

  • Warn when no group selected when using Schedule Backups / Run-Now.

  • Corrected problems when performing multiple media backups.

  • Auto-create the "RegBack" directory when restoring the registry on the local system (previously this was only performed for remote systems).

Version 4.1s

  • During image backup the surface is now scanned for bad blocks. If one is found on a SCSI device, the bad block will be automatically remapped from the sector spare pool and the operation will be logged. If the device is not SCSI or the remap fails, this event will also be logged.

Version 4.1r

  • The registry was only being updated for the eventlog message source after the BEI Scheduler service was installed. If there were problems with the installation of the service this could result in the registry not being updated. This would cause EventViewer to display "The source for event 4096 could not be found, it contains the following insertion string(s)." UltraBac has been changed to update the registry during every initialization to ensure that the registry has the correct information.

  • When performing a restoration, specifying a named path AND the "Maintain directory structure" option would cause UltraBac to change the named path's directory attributes to hidden & system. This has now been fixed.

  • Added Image agent component.
