Today, organizations look more and more towards complete disaster recovery
solutions. But for these solutions to work, they must be based on sound data
protection strategies. The data protection tools included in this roundup are
well known for their ability to work with Microsoft technologies and help
protect the data types found in Windows networks. Some of the tools also provide
low-cost protection for small to medium businesses.
Too often, when choosing a solution, organizations focus only on the backup
portion of backup and restore operations. Don't make the same mistake. Verify
the recovery portion of any back up technology in your technical laboratory
before you commit to any complex recovery solution.
UltraBac 7.x
UltraBac 7.x takes advantage of Microsoft's latest operating systems, Windows
Server 2003, and includes agents for Exchange and SQL Server along with agents
for non-Microsoft products. It uses an Image Disaster Recovery tool that
provides local or remote image-based backup and disaster recovery for Windows
operating systems. It backs up a server's operating system partition on a
scheduled basis and can recover it in as little as 10 minutes. This is
definitely faster than Windows Server 2003's ASR feature. Like most other
backup products, UltraBac provides support for heterogeneous environments.
