Your ability to perform an online backup is
critical to the smooth operation of Exchange. An online backup requests the
database page by page and verifies the checksum of each page as it requests it.
This enables you to back up the database while it's in use, and it ensures the
integrity of the database's pages. If your backup software isn't capable of
backing up the Exchange Information Store online, you must dismount the stores
in order to get a backup.
