BELLEVUE, WA -- April 1, 1999 UltraBac Software, authors of award-winning backup and storage management software, announces that UltraBac for Windows NT® proved to be the fastest commercial backup and restore solution for Microsoft® SQL Server 7.0 in a January 1999 benchmark test conducted at Microsoft®. UltraBac successfully backed up a 263GB SQL Server 7.0 database at 606 GB/hour and restored it at 508 GB/hour with minimal impact on system resources. The tests were conducted at the Microsoft® Redmond campus under direct supervision of the SQL Server Senior Development staff. UltraBac for Windows NT® offers many advantages over native SQL Server backup. Using UltraBac, the SQL Server 7.0 databases can be backed up during normal operations in record time eliminating the need for a backup window during which data is unavailable. The software offers both standard file-by-file backup and image backup. Image backup is an option that allows fast disaster recovery for both Intel and Alpha machines. UltraBac is Microsoft® Cluster Server compatible.
All benchmark tests were performed in a controlled environment using a Compaq Eight-way Alpha Server 8400 with 625 MHz processors, 8GB of memory, 128 disk drives, 32 AIT tape drives, and a 263GB Microsoft® SQL Server 7.0 Database that was constructed to approximate a live data environment.
