Enhanced version includes optional FTP and Tivoli Storage Manager backup and recovery features.
BELLEVUE, WA -- August 28, 2002 UltraBac Software today announced UltraBac v7.0.2 with the new ability to use any FTP server or IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) as storage devices for UltraBac backup and restore operations.
The UltraBac FTP Device allows an administrator to perform backup & restore operations to any FTP server connected to the Internet by simply entering the FTP server's address as the backup path. UltraBac then "pushes" a compressed data stream to the designated FTP server. This new feature will allow organizations to easily store data offsite or centralize data from remote site backups.
The UltraBac Tivoli Storage Manager Device allows UltraBac to write data to a TSM server where Tivoli's unique storage management features can be leveraged alongside UltraBac's rich client-level backup strengths. Administrators taking advantage of the combined solution will use UltraBac to manage the administration of the backup and restore processes while TSM manages the media the backups are written to. Use of TSM API's guarantees a seamless integration with the TSM architecture, and has been certified TSM compliant by IBM.
The new features and updates in UltraBac 7.0.2 represent an enhancement of the recently released 7.0 code which leverages DCOM technology, allowing for a more distributed application and better application manageability.
By including FTP and TSM devices as backup paths, UltraBac now sets a new industry standard by offering more backup and restore options than any other application. Backup options include writing data to any type of local or remote media, including disk, tape, CD-RW and optical. Standard features include media pre-check with email problem notification, media spanning to either tape or disk (any UNC path), and hardware failover. The hardware failover feature allows a failed backup to be redirected to another device, thus significantly improving backup reliability.
"The introduction of FTP and Tivoli Storage Manager support make UltraBac more flexible than ever before," said Morgan Edwards, CEO and founder of UltraBac Software. "Our goal is to allow our customers to backup to virtually any device of their choosing. It doesn't matter if the backup path is a UNC path or a local/remote tape, CD-RW, Optical, FTP or a third party solution such as TSM, we have them covered."
UltraBac also now offers an Exchange 2000 Agent for incremental and full backups of local and/or remote mail server databases. This agent uses Microsoft's APIs to help guarantee database integrity and to minimize any necessary downtime. The agent also includes single mailbox backup/restore options.
Other recent updates include a redesigned Oracle Agent, which performs either "Hot" or "Cold" backups of any Windows based Oracle server on the network, and a new scheduler offering all the features of 'CRON' and more. A new wizard guides users step-by-step, making the creation of scheduled backups a simple and straightforward process.
