After having created one or more backup sets ("*.UB" files), click on "Option" from the Main Menu Bar and then click on the "Schedule Backup" option. This will display the following dialog box:

Figure 51: Unattended & "Run Now" Backup Scheduler
The Scheduler dialog box is designed to both create unattended Backup Groups and initiate an immediate backup of a highlighted Backup Group or a number of selected Backup Sets using the "Run NOW" button.
Use the slider to view columns not displayed. The "Scheduled Backups:" list box displays the "Enabled State", "Name", "Time", and "Description" columns. The "Enabled State" is displayed as a light bulb – it shines yellow if the scheduled backup is enabled and white if it is not enabled. The scheduled backup "Name" is the group file name (*.UBB). The "Time" column displays the time and days of the week the group is scheduled to run. The user defines the "Description" through the "Options" button.
The "Available Sets:" and the "Sets in this Backup" list boxes display the "Name", "Description" and "Path". The "Name" is the set file name (*.UB). The user defines the set "Description". The "Path" is the drive or path stored in the set, and reflects the reference point of the backup.
See User Manual: "Creating Backup Sets" chapter.
To create a new backup group:
Highlight the <New> group within the "Scheduled Backups" list box. NOTE: If you double click on the <New> group, you will go directly to the "Backup Options" screen described below.
Highlight each Backup Set required for the backup, one at a time, from the "Available Sets" list box and click on "ADD" or simply double click the mouse. This will add the selected Set name in the "Sets in this Backup" list box. Sets are processed during backup in the order added to the list box. Use the "REMOVE" key to delete a highlighted set entry from the "Sets in this Backup" box.

Figure 52: Set Scheduled Time
Click on each day of the week that this backup is to be performed. WARNING! After midnight, it's the next day, e.g. a Monday night backup after midnight is really an early Tuesday morning backup!

Figure 53: Scheduled Options
Key in a Backup Group Description.
Click on the "Clear Storage Media" check box to begin writing data from the beginning of the storage media. This will effectively erase any existing information on the storage media. Leaving the "Clear Storage Media" check box unchecked, will append data to the storage media. This will space to the end of the last backup session and then start writing the new data. WARNING: If a foreign storage media is used, regardless of the status of the "Clear Storage Media" check box, the storage media will automatically be formatted to UltraBac's standard. It will be used as if the "Clear Storage Media" checkbox is checked on, and all existing data on the storage media will be overwritten.
Click on the appropriate selector for verifying the storage media after backup. The "Verify After Backup" operation uses a 32bit CRC check. Verification is automatically enabled when the "De-Fragmentation" option is used.
Note: UltraBac.com recommends always verifying after backup, since many errors which do not show up on the backup log will show up on the verify log.
In addition to checking the 32-bit CRC value during verification, the "Compare to Disk during Verify" option reads the data on the media and compares it byte-by-byte to the original file. This is much slower than a normal verification, and it will report files that have changed in-between backup and verify as possible errors. This option is also set in the "Tools"/"Preferences"/"Backup"" dialog box.
The "Restore all files (defrag)" option is explained below, in the section titled, "De-Fragmenting A Drive".
Click on the "Back Up Registry" check box if a registry backup is required. Unattended and "Run Now" backups both back the registry files up to the first set of the backup group written to storage media. See User Manual: "System State and Registry Backup & Restore" chapter.
Click on the "Clear Archive Bit" check box if the file's archive bit is to be reset after backup.
The "Re-tension tape before backup" is available for tape drives that supports this feature.
The "Disable Media Spanning" prevents an unattended backup from prompting the user to insert new storage media when the current storage media is full. UltraBac will post a warning message to the event and backup logs and abort the backup.
The "Delete Files After Backup (Archive)" option is only available during an archive and to enforce prudent backup strategy, it automatically enables the "Verify After" option. To protect the system directory and the root of the system drive, this option will not remove any files with the system or hidden attribute set. NOTE: This option deletes the files after they are archived and should be used with caution. If any files fail to backup or verify, no files are deleted.
Click on the "Backup System State (Win2k)" check box if a System State backup is required. Unattended and "Run Now" backups both back the System State files up to the first set of the backup group written to storage media. See User Manual: "System State and Registry Backup & Restore" chapter.
Click on the "E-Mail Notification" down arrow to select "None", "MAPI (Exchange)", or "SMTP". This option is explained in more detail in the chapter titled "E-Mail Interface (MAPI & SMTP)".
The "Send E-Mail On Each Error" option causes an e-mail to be sent on every error.
The "Send Full Backup Report" option forces the entire backup log for the session to be sent rather than the normal summary report. The "Limit E-Mail Report Size" option allows the user to limit the report size. Enter the limit into the "Max Report Size (kb)" text box in kilobytes.
Click on the "Edit Distribution" button to create/edit an e-mail distribution list. NOTE: This information is stored in the UBDATA share. Restricted access should be maintained on this share.
Click on the "Send Test E-Mail" to send a test message to everyone in the e-mail distribution list. (Note: The user should be logged on using the user account that the BEI Scheduler uses.) This option is grayed out when pointing to a remote computer.
Click on the "E-Mail Notification" down arrow to select "None", "MAPI (Exchange)", or "SMTP" . MAPI requires the "DISTRIB.LST" distribution list and SMTP requires the "SMTP.LST" distribution list. Click on the "Edit Distribution" button to create or edit the associated file. Refer to the Chapter on "E-Mail Interface" for the format required by this function. Click on the "Send Test E-Mail" to send a test message to every account represented on the distribution file. NOTE: This information is stored in the UBDATA share. Restricted access should be maintained on this share.
Click on the "Event Log" check box to have UltraBac generated error and warning messages posted in the application event log.
Click on the "After Backup" down arrow to select either "Eject" or "Rewind" the storage media after backup (ejecting is usually more secure). Warning : The sequential backup can fail when using drives, which logically eject but not physically eject (e.g. Travan Drives). For successful backups when using this type of drive, either select "Rewind" or manually eject and re-insert the storage media into the drive before each sequential backup. Otherwise a screen similar to the following will occur during a sequential backup:

Figure 54: Logical Not Physical Eject
Click on the "Log Type" down arrow to select either "Summary", "Detail" or "None". A "Summary" report excludes file level details while a detailed log report includes information about each file included in the backup.
Click on the "Before and After Job" button to enter a batch command line. This capability allows UltraBac to run a job before backup starts and a job after backup finishes (different than Set Before/After). This allows one UltraBac backup to end and then start another backup, e.g. first backup is a disk to disk incremental backup which, when complete, initiates a full backup to tape when complete.
The "Autoloader Options" option is explained below in the section titled "Autoloader Options".
The "Define Storage Devices for Backup" option is explained below in the section titled, "Using Multiple Storage Device Drives (Including Disk Paths)".
Click on the "OK" button to return to the "Scheduled Backup" screen.
Click on the "Save As" button to save the Backup Group (Scheduled Backup) as explained below in the section titled, "Saving Backup Groups."
De-Fragmenting A Drive
Click on the "Restore all files (defrag)" check box if after backup and verify, the disk is to be restored to reduce or eliminate file fragmentation. If all files on the disk were selected, successfully written and verified, the disk is first reformatted to wipe it clean. In the event that there were open files on the disk, all the files to be restored are deleted in mass and then the files are restored from storage media. The latter method is not as effective in de-fragmenting a disk as when a reformat operation is performed. Note: A reformat operation will not be attempted on a remote network drive, or on a drive that does not include ALL files. !!!WARNING!!! Do not attempt to use the function on an active operating system disk without exercising due caution and first excluding all operating system files required in rebooting a machine; otherwise, a de-fragmentation operation may leave your machine in an unbootable state!
Autoloader Options
UltraBac will utilize an autoloader tape drive in sequential mode of operation by simply adding it to the "Use Devices in this Order:" list box. Multiple tape cartridges in the loader will be sequentially used automatically as they fill up during a backup. The "Autoloader Options" field is inactive until the BEI medium changer driver is installed.
The BEI Medium Changer driver offers random access mode of operation and is an optional cost module. After installing the BEI medium changer driver, the "Autoloader" option field becomes activated. The "Autoloader Options" button allows users to determine autoloader specific behavior. Refer to the chapter on autoloaders ("Optional Medium Changer Driver (Autoloader)" for more information.
Using Multiple Storage Device Drives (Including Disk Paths)
To select from more than one storage device drive for backup, click on the "Define Storage Devices for Backup" button. The default is always the first entry on the list of available devices. The selected storage device drive is only used for scheduled backups and when the "Run Now" button is used in conjunction with the "Unattended" option. An "Interactive" backup using the "Run NOW" option, defaults to the storage device drive set through "Preferences".

Figure 55: Scheduled Device Options
To select a storage device drive for use, highlight the drive by clicking on it from the "Available Storage Devices" list box and then clicking on the "Add>>" button. To remove a storage device drive from use, highlight the entry by clicking on it from the "Use Devices in this Order:" list box and then clicking on the "<<Remove" button. Clicking on the "Clear" button will remove all the drives and paths from the "Use Devices in this Order:" list box and re-list them in the "Available Storage Devices" list box. The logic for adding and removing tape drives and/or disk paths is identical.
Cascading To Additional Drives
To automatically cascade a backup to a second or third device, simply activate the tape drive or disk path by adding it to the "Use Devices in this Order:" list box. If a backup exceeds the capacity of the first device, then the backup will automatically cascade to the next listed device. Cascading is not necessary when backing up to a disk drive with removable media - a full disk will automatically trigger a request for a media change.
Redirecting Failed Backups
To redirect a backup to another drive if either a storage media mount problem or hard error occurs on the drive, first activate additional drive(s) by adding to the "Use Devices in this Order:" list box. The "Use next device if problem mounting media" check box will redirect the backup to the next specified drive if a storage media is not mounted or fails to respond. The "Restart backup on next device if error during backup" check box will redirect the backup to the next specified drive if a fatal error occurs during backup to the drive (note that the "Use next device if problem mounting media" check box must be ON!). If a fatal error occurs while writing to the device, the backup will continue on the next drive by restarting at either the beginning of the set in which the error occurred, or restarting the backup group, or aborting the backup depending on the which radio button was selected. Exercise caution when mixing tape and disk devices for a redirect operation, a 4GB tape backup should not be redirected to a 1GB fixed disk or a 100MB removable Zip drive!
When complete, click on OK, this will return you to the Scheduler Backup Options Screen. Continue editing the new backup group or to use the "Save As" button.
Checking if Device is Ready
The "Check if device is ready" option checks the devices the number of minutes specified, before the backup begins. For each device not ready, UltraBac sends a message to all entities defined under the "Notification" and "E-Mail Notification" boxes located in the "Backup Options" screen. This screen is found by selecting: "Scheduler"/"Scheduled Backups"/<highlight a group>/"Options". This enables the user to make the devices ready before the backup begins.
