The "Backup all local fixed drives and registry" operation creates a set that includes multiple fixed drives and the registry. This option allows a complete computer to be represented by one set.

Figure 25: Create New Set
When entering a "Set Description" uniquely describe the set. UltraBac uses the description when posting messages to logs, and when listing the sets during a restore or verify. Click on the "File Selection Logic:" down arrow to display the following pre-defined selection options. NOTE: The "File Selection Logic" list box does not apply to "Load Set" if the set has not been previously saved. When the user selects "Load Set", no automatic selection logic is applied. Also, the selection logic does not apply to Image sets.
All Files (selects all files on the drive or network share)
Modified Files (selects files based on archive bit set status)
Modified Files - Beginning of Day (selects all modified files since 00:01 that day)
Modified Files - Beginning of Week (selects all modified files since Monday at 00:01)
Modified Files - Beginning of Month (selects all modified files since the 1st at 00:01)
The "All Files" option selects all files included within the operation chosen by the user from the "New Backup" screen described earlier. All other options are described in detail later in the "Incremental, Differential And Archive Bit Selections" section of this chapter.
Note: When multiple drives are included in a set, the selection logic chosen applies to all of the drives, not just the current drive. An example is, when the user excludes all files with the .bak extension. (e.g. "Exclude"/(enter *.bak)/"Use Mask"), all of the drives included in the set will exclude all files with the .bak files extension. A second example is, if the user selects the "C:\temp" directory path, every "<drive>:\temp" directory path within the set will be included.
After selecting the file selection option, simple NT/2000 workstation/professional and server sets can be saved immediately. This process can be used to create multiple sets quickly and efficiently.
Also provided for unattended backups are choices for Before and After Jobs and Aborting upon failure.
Selecting "Load Set" goes directly to the "Set Editor" screen described later in this chapter under "Selecting Files For Backup". Selecting "Save Set" skips the "Set Editor" screen and goes directly to the "Create New Set" screen. The "Set Editor" screen allows you to select which files and directories to include in the set along with other options.
Choose the "Save Set" option when you wish to include all of the files, directories and/or registry contained within the selected operation and you do not need to customize the backup further. Sets are created much faster using this option, since UltraBac does not need to load and display the directories and files. The "Save Set" button displays the following screen:

Figure 26: Save Set
This screen displays the domains and computers on the network. The user can either enter a computer (e.g. \\CAMILLE) in the text box provided, or the user can expand the domain and computer icons until the desired computer is displayed and selected. Confirm the backup set file name in the "File Name" field and click on "SAVE". This action will create a file which may be used for both foreground and background backups. Note: The UBDATA share must exist on the remote computer.
After creating the new set file, you will be returned to the "UltraBac – Create New Set" screen where this process can be repeated for each computer to be backed up until all necessary sets have been created. Complete the set creation phase before creating the backup group through the Scheduler module for both scheduled unattended backups and interactive "Run Now" backups.
Note to advanced users. Backup set files can be both created and edited using any text editor program. It may be faster to create new sets that vary slightly from a basic model by using a text editor to modify an existing set and then use the "Save As" option. CAUTION: If this method is used, take care not to interject set parameter problems, which will cause backup failure! The program logic for processing sets is very strict.
If "Load Set " is selected, and multiple drives exist, then the following screen is displayed:

Figure 27: Select Drive From Set
This screen displays the local fixed drives. Select the drive you wish to view when creating the backup set. Select "OK" to proceed to the "Set Editor" screen, which allows the user to modify the set by including or excluding files and directories from the drive selected. If the user desires to exclude files from more than one drive, the user should save the set and reopen it and select another drive to view and repeat this step. The "Set Editor" screen is described later in this chapter under "Selecting Files For Backup".
The "Backup the Local System Drive and Registry" operation creates a set that includes only the system drive and the registry. This operation behaves much like the "Backup All Local Fixed Drives and Registry" operation. Since there is only one drive to choose from, the "Select Drive From Set" screen is skipped when "Load Set" is selected.
Choosing the "Select Local Fixed Drives to Backup" operation differs from the "Backup all local fixed drives and registry" operation in that it allows the user to select which local fixed drives to include in the set, and that the registry is included only if the "Back Up Registry" option is checked. This option, depending on the backup type, is found either under "Tools"/"Preferences"/"File Selection" or under "Scheduler"/"Scheduled Backups"/(highlight the appropriate group)/"Options" or, during a foreground backup, "Load Set"/"Perform Backup"/"Back Up Registry".
This category displays the following screen:

Figure 28: Select Local Drives
This screen displays the local fixed drives. Select the drives you wish to include in the set. Select "Next" or "Finish" to proceed to the "Create New Set" screen. This option now proceeds the same as the previously documented option "Backup all local fixed drives and registry", except this option does not automatically include the Registry. Instead it uses the respective preference setting (Either "Tools"/"Preferences"/"File Selection"/"Back Up Registry" for attended backups or "Scheduler"/"Scheduled Backups"/(highlight a group)/"Options"/"Back Up Registry" for unattended backups.
Choosing the "Select Network Drive to backup" operation displays the following screen:

Figure 29: Select Network Resource
This screen displays the domains and computers on the network. UltraBac can connect to and backup any drive on the network. The user can either enter a share (e.g. \\ACE\C$) in the text box provided, or the user can expand the domain and computer icons until the desired share is displayed. Notice the path is automatically displayed in the text box. Highlight the share you wish to include in this set, and select "Finish".

Figure 30: Network Based Sets
You may additionally modify the path. For example, the user can key in a "$" sign following the drive letter. This sets the UNC for a default administrative share and insures that when the drive is connected to during backup that the drive will be processed. This requires, of course, that the administrative share still exists and has not been deleted.
You may use an admin or a standard user share. Whether to use the admin share (if it exists) verses using a standard share depends completely on the individual circumstances encountered for each machine.
See UBQ: UBQ000076 Using Admin Shares Verses Standard User Shares
NOTE: Once a network backup set has been created, the path is stored in the set, which allows use of the set regardless from where it is accessed. This differs from a straight "local" set that would define, for instance, a system's "C:" drive. A local "C:" drive set (without a network path) can be exported to any other system and used as a set local to the new system, provided that the file selection logic is generic, e.g. Include all directories, etc. In this example, do not create local backup sets using UNCs.
When creating sets for non-connected drives, it can be faster to use a text editor and edit an existing "*.UB" file and modify the drive designation and path and save it as a new file. Refer to the "Backup Set Format" section of the "Creating Backup Sets" chapter.
TESTING THE CLIENT CONNECTION
After creating a set, the connection can be tested by running UltraBac and from the backup/open option, highlight and load the set. If the connection attempted by the set is OK, the set will be loaded. If the connection fails, an error will be displayed indicating the failure with a numeric value. The error number can be interpreted by keying in "net helpmsg #" on a command prompt line. Note that an interactive connection does not test whether a password is valid!
After selecting "Next", the following screen is displayed:

Figure 31: Create Set
The above screen is the same as the "Create New Set" screen described under the "Backup all local fixed drives and registry" category mentioned previously, except for the "Account Info" button. Choosing the "Account Info" button displays the following screen:

Figure 32: Select for New Set
This "Account Info" option is used when the account UltraBac is running on does not have full access to the network share. Enter an account and password that has full access to the network share. Note: This information is stored in the set using clear text. Protect the drives containing the sets.
Selecting "Load Set" will invoke the "Set Editor" screen described later in this chapter under "Selecting Files for Backup". Selecting "Save Set" will invoke the "Save Set" screen described earlier. The registry is included only if the applicable "Back Up Registry" option is checked. This option, depending on the type of backup, is found either under "Tools"/"Preferences"/"File Selection" or "Scheduler"/"Scheduled Backups"/(highlight the appropriate group)/"Options" or, during a foreground backup, "Load Set"/"Perform Backup"/"Back Up Registry". Remember, when backing up using multiple sets on one machine, including the registry with every set is redundant and wastes time and storage media.
Choosing the "Backup using the UltraBac Agent (Image, Exchange, SQL, NetWare, Windows 95/98)" operation, displays the following screen:

Figure 33: Select Agent
Select the appropriate option from the "Select Agent" wizard.
Selecting the "Microsoft Windows 95/98 Agent" option will produce the "Select a Computer to backup" screen, similar to the "Select Network Drive to backup" screen discussed above. The user may need to expand domain icons until the desired computer is displayed. Note: Occasionally the Browser will not work properly with our Windows 95/98 Agent. When this happens, type in the Windows 95/98 computer name into the "Supply a Source Drive for the New Set." field (i.e. \\Test98).
When "Next" is selected, the "Create New Set" screen appears. This screen is described above, in the "Backup Local Fixed Disks and registry" category. Selecting "Load Set" will invoke the "Set Editor" screen described later in this chapter under "Selecting Files For Backup". Selecting "Save Set" will invoke the "Save Set" screen described earlier. The set, including drives and the registry will be displayed in the "Set Editor" screen. From here the user can include into or exclude from the set directories, files and the registry. WARNING : The Registry is not included in a Windows 95/98 set even if the "Back Up Registry" option has been enabled. The user must include the folder representing the Registry to successfully backup Windows 95/98 registries. The folder is called "REGISTRY".

Figure 34: Including Window 95/98 REGISTRY folder
The options: "Microsoft Exchange Server live backup", "Microsoft SQL Server live backup", "Oracle Server" and "Image Backup" will display the "Select Object" screen. Note: Selecting these agents while using an evaluation version of UltraBac, displays an additional screen, informing the user that these agents are additional charge items. To keep the agent enabled after the evaluation period, you will incur an added cost. For more information or to license, you can find our phone number in the "Phone Numbers" section of the "Troubleshooting & &ldots;" chapter.

Figure 35: Additional Charge Items
Select "OK" to continue.
The "Select Object" screen follows:

Figure 36: Select Object
From here the user selects which objects to backup. After choosing "Next", the "Create New Set" screen described above is displayed. From this screen, if "Load Set" is selected, then the "Set Editor" screen appears, allowing the user to modify the set by including or excluding objects. The "Set Editor" screen is described later in this chapter under "Selecting Files for Backup". If "Save Set" is selected, the "Save Set" screen described earlier, is displayed.
The "Mailbox" option will display the "Mailbox Server Information" screen:

Figure : Mail Box Server Information
Enter an "Organization:", "Site:" and "Server:" as defined within Exchange.
After selecting "Next" the "Create New Set" screen described above is displayed. From this screen, if "Load Set" is selected then the "Set Editor" screen appears, allowing the user to modify the set by including or excluding mailboxes and/or folders. The "Set Editor" screen is described later in this chapter under "Selecting Files for Backup". If "Save Set" is selected, the "Save Set" screen described above is displayed.
The "NetWare Server" option will display the "Select a Computer to Backup" screen prompting the user to enter a NetWare computer name or select a NetWare computer from a browse list. Note: Although the NetWare agent will function without either the "Microsoft client for NetWare" or the "Novell NetWare client", if neither client is installed on the host computer, browsing of NetWare servers is not supported. In this case, the user must manually enter the name of the desired server. The appearance of the following screen will depend on which client is installed or if any client is installed.

Figure 37: Selecting NetWare Computer
After selecting "Next", UltraBac will prompt for a NetWare account name and password. Enter an account having administrative authority to the root of the NetWare Directory.

Figure 38: NetWare User Information
After selecting "Next", if authentication fails, the following screen appears:

Figure 39: NetWare User-ID / Password Verification Failed.
Select "Yes" to keep the current user-ID / Password combination or select "No" and re-enter the information.
If authentication succeeds or the user selects "Yes", the "Create New Set" screen described above is displayed. From this screen, if "Load Set" is selected then the "Set Editor" screen appears, allowing the user to modify the set by including or excluding objects. The "Set Editor" screen is described later in this chapter under "Selecting Files for Backup". If "Save Set" is selected, the "Save Set" screen described above is displayed.
Select the "Select Network Drive to backup" option described above. Type in a network disk path (e.g. \\MachineName\C$) into the drive designation box and click on the "Finish" button. This method also allows creating a set for the "A" and "B" drives which are never listed. Share the drive and then use it's UNC path.
Sets can also be created using a text editor program (this topic is thoroughly covered later in this chapter under the "Backup Set Format" section).
A backup set is file based (e.g. "*.UB") and contains a definition of what files are to be backed up, any necessary network connection, WFW & Win95/98 Passwords where required, and optional "Before / After User Program Exits". After defining the required backup sets, the next step is to create a backup group (this is covered in the following chapter "Creating Backup Groups").
