Locked-File Backup Agent

Introduction

Using our Locked-File Backup Agent, exclusively locked files may now be backed up without having to unlock them beforehand. This option is an Extra-Cost Option. The use of the optional Locked-File Backup Agent is controlled by the UltraBac.com licensing module. Pre-license evaluation versions of UltraBac default to Locked-File Backup Agent enabled status. Permanent licensing can be updated by telephone or web-site to include the use of the Locked-File Backup Agent after purchase. For phone numbers, addresses and web-site information:

See User Manual: "Phone Numbers and Addresses" section of the "Troubleshooting & Diagnostic Aids" chapter.

See Web-site: UltraBac Licensing Center

The "Locked-File Backup" check box is available for local drives. After selecting the "Locked-File Backup" option, creating a locked-file set is the same as creating any local drive set. Note: Naming and giving the set a description that delineates it as a locked-file set will enable the user to easily distinguish it from other sets.

Restoring Files From a Locked-File Backup Set

Restoring files from a locked-file backup set is performed in the usual way except the computer may need to be rebooted to complete the restore process. Typically the locked-files should be released before restoring (e.g. stop services locking the files). Make sure and select "Restore in-Use files". All files locked at time of restore require a reboot. Non-locked files do not.

Locked-File Backup Limitations

Currently UltraBac's Locked-File Backup agent is available for Windows NT but not for Windows 2000. The Locked-File Backup agent will be available for Windows 2000 in a future version of UltraBac.

Currently UltraBac's Locked-File Backup agent "freezes" one drive letter at a time therefore:

Currently UltraBac's Locked-File Backup does not support software raid.

Currently UltraBac's Locked-File Backup does not support Volume Sets.

Currently UltraBac's Locked-File Backup does not support Dynamic Disks.
