SUMMARY:
There are two methods to create a set to connect to a password-protected share – either when you're already connected to the password protected share, or when you aren't yet connected to it. This paper shows how to create a set in either situation. Typically this is only needed when connecting to a share on a Win9x/WFW machine that is protected by share-level access control. When accessing an NT/2000 machine it is usually more efficient to just give the UltraBac user access to the share.
DETAILS:
Creating A Set When Currently Not Connected to a Password Protected Share
If you are backing up to a password protected share, and you're currently not connected to it, then you will be unable to load the set without entering account information in first. In order to do this, you will need to create the set initially with the account information. See the steps below:
Step One:

Figure 1: Select Network Resource
From UltraBac, select "Backup" and "New". Click on "Select network drive to backup" and "Next", and then double click the machine to display all defined Shares. Highlighting the Share to be backed up will insert the UNC path name into the text box on the "Select Network Resource" screen. Click on the "Next >" button.

Figure 2: Create New Set Screen
To enter the account information for the share, such as the password or user ID, click on the button that says "Account Info". Click on the "Save Set" button to create a set without loading the designated share's files when all it's files are to be backed up or when one of the pull-down options for backup selection is to be used. If otherwise, the "Load Set" option must be used to select specific file and directory combinations.

Figure 3: Account Information
Enter in the User ID, Domain name, or Password, as necessary for connecting to the particular share. If the Share is password protected, enter the password. Note that the password cannot be validated after entry into this field. The password is required by the BEI Service when performing an unattended backup! The connection to the drive will fail if the password is invalid.
Step Two: ("Load Set" option only!)
From UltraBac's File Selection screen, click on each directory and file combination to be backed up and/or use the provided include and exclude logic to select the files to be included in this backup set.
Step Three:

Figure 4: Create Set Screen
Having selected all files to be backed up, click on the "Create Set" button. This will display the "Create Set" screen. Enter any User ID or Password required to access the share, and then click "Save Set".

Figure 5: Account Information
This will display the "Save UltraBac Backup Set" dialog box, which will default the file name to the machine-to-back-up network name & share name, e.g. "SQLEXCH_ADD-INS.UB" for the set name.
Having created this set through the UltraBac Interface, the created set will look like the following when displayed through a Text Editor Program like NOTEPAD:
|
%Joe's Win95/98 password protected C drive |
(Set description) |
|
@U:\ |
(Designated available backup drive path) |
|
@\\JOE\A_TEST |
(UNC name for machine & share name) |
|
$Ppassword |
(Password = password) |
|
+*.* /R |
(Logic = select all files on drive) |
Creating A Set When Already Connected to a Password Protected Share
This method assumes that you're already connected to the share, and have loaded the set and selected the files to be backed up. In this case, you may load the set without clicking on the "Account Info" button, and clicking on the "Create Set" button will display the following dialog box:

Figure 6: Before/After Programs & Password Options
This screen allows entry of a Windows for Workgroups or Windows 95/98 password when connecting to a network workstation using Windows for Workgroups or Win95/98. To enable a backup set to connect to a Windows for Workgroups or Win95/98 client with a password protected share, the password must be entered into the "Password (Optional)" field of the "Create Set" dialog box displayed above.
