SUMMARY:
Security requirements and setup for UltraBac backups.
DETAILS:
UltraBac requires access privileges and rights to backup network disk drives through the BEI Scheduler Service. Without proper access, backup of other servers and workstations will fail. The following steps briefly outline the security requirements necessary for UltraBac to access network drives from the service:
Create a backup administrator ID (e.g. UltraBac) through "User Manager for Domains" for Server and Enterprise versions of UltraBac and assign it "Logon as a Service" priority. UltraBac will automatically assign the specified ID the required service priority when installing Version 2.1 and above on Windows NT 3.51 and above. UltraBac Workstation users can run either "User Manager for Domains" or "User Manager".
Run UltraBac the first time to create the BEI Scheduler Service using the UltraBac administrator ID and password when the installation dialog box is presented. If the service has already been created, edit it and change the user ID to UltraBac and enter the correct password. Do not check the "System Account" or "Allow service to interact with the desktop" check boxes.
To backup WINDOWS for WORKGROUP clients, the backup set that defines the share drive must have a valid WFW password. Review the Chapter "Before/After Programs & WFW Password" under "CREATING BACKUP SETS" for more information on WFW password use.
