Saving a Set After Selecting Files

After selecting the directories and files for backup, the set can be saved immediately by clicking on the screen's "Create Set" button. The "Create Set" screen will be displayed:

Figure 43: Create Set

When entering a "Set Description", uniquely describe the set. UltraBac uses the description when posting messages to logs, and when listing the sets during a restore or verify. Click on the "File Selection Logic:" down arrow to display the following pre-defined selection options. NOTE: The "File Selection Logic" list box applies to "Save Set" but not to "Load Set". When the user selects "Load Set", no automatic selection logic is applied. Also, the selection logic does not apply to Image sets.

All Files (selects all files on the drives or network share)
Modified Files (selects files based on archive bit set status)
Modified Files - Beginning of Day (selects all modified files since 00:01 that day)
Modified Files - Beginning of Week (selects all modified files since Monday at 00:01)
Modified Files - Beginning of Month (selects all modified files since the 1st at 00:01)
Current Selection Logic (only displayed after loading & selecting files)

The "All Files" option selects all files included within the operation chosen by the user from the "New Backup" screen described earlier. "Current Selection Logic" selects all files selected by the user in the "Set Editor" screen described earlier. All other options are described in detail later in the "Incremental, Differential And Archive Bit Selections" section of this chapter.

Note: When multiple drives are included in a set, the selection logic chosen applies to all of the drives, not just the current drive. An example is, when the user excludes all files with the .bak extension. (e.g. "Exclude"/(enter *.bak)/"Use Mask"), all of the drives included in the set will exclude all files with the .bak files extension. A second example is, if the user selects the "C:\temp" directory path, every "<drive>:\temp" directory path within the set will be included.

Provided for unattended backups are choices for Before and After Jobs and Aborting upon failure.

See User Manual: "Before/After Jobs & Client Password" section of the "Creating Backup Sets" chapter.

Selecting "Save Set" will expedite saving sets locally and displays the following screen:

After verifying the set's "File Name" select "Save", which saves the set unless a set already exists by the same file name. If so, the following dialog box will be displayed:

Figure 45: Replace Existing Set?

Selecting "No" will return to the previous screen allowing you to enter a different name. Selecting "Yes" will return you to the "Set Editor" screen after saving the set.

Selecting "Save Set To" will expedite saving sets to remote computers and displays the following screen:

Browse until you find the computer where you wish to save the set and double-click or select "OK". The following screen appears. NOTE: that the share entered in the "Save in:" list box is "ubdata". UltraBac Groups (*.UBB) expect to find sets (*.UB) in the ubdata share created by UltraBac during installation.

After verifying the set's "File Name" select "Save", which saves the set unless a set already exists by the same file name. If so, the following dialog box will be displayed:

Selecting "No" will return to the previous screen allowing you to enter a different name. Selecting "Yes" will return you to the "Set Editor" screen after saving the set.

First time users should review this chapter's sections on "Before/After Jobs" and "Passwords for WFW & Win95/98 Clients". Before and after jobs are user-controlled exits to run programs before and after processing a set. When connecting to a WFW or Win95/98 workstation which has been password protected, the set must correctly supply the password in order to access the network share and back up it's files.

Once the "Create Set" screen's parameters have been adjusted to suite the set's requirements, click on the "Save Set" button to display the "Save UltraBac Backup Set" dialog box documented previously in this chapter.

Note: When editing an existing set, it can also be saved from within the "Set Editor" screen by choosing the option path, "Backup"/"Save". This method will not prompt the user when the file name already exists, but will automatically overwrite the set (file).
