SUMMARY:

How to back up to a CD-R or CD-RW disk using UltraBac.

DETAILS:

Go to Windows NT Explorer, or right-click on "My Computer" and go to "Explore"
Right click the CD-R drive, and select "Format".* This will set up the CD-R disk so that it may now be written to. To test this, you may try dragging and dropping a 1K file to the disk, and make certain that it copies.
Enter UltraBac.
Go to "Select"/"Storage Device".
Under "Show:", select "Disk" from the pull-down menu.
Click "Add"
Give the device a name, and enter the CD-R path in the second field.

* Formatting a CD-R disk will drop the available free disk space to 619MB.

NOTE 1: on a CD-R disk, you can erase files if you have UltraBac set to "clear media". It will "overwrite" the original files on the CD. Although the original files will still technically "exist" and hence take up CD-R disk space, you would be unable to access them without special software.

NOTE 2: For version 4.x, the steps to select the storage device are slightly different. Instead, you would select "Options"/"Preferences"/"Media"/"Default Output Device"/
