UltraBac Software's release of our version 7 series in April 2002 introduced a new generation of backup and disaster recovery software. Our intention was to create a world-class media management option for UltraBac enterprise customers, without making the base product too complex for the small to medium business (SMB) market.
The totally new architecture in version 7, designed as a foundation for the sophisticated features and functions required for large networks, was planned to allow us to add new functionality quickly, while retaining the reliability that UltraBac is known for.
Now meet UBDR Pro and UBDR Gold, premier disaster recovery solutions that continue to fulfill our goals. These new products fully support all of Microsoft's Windows server and workstation family of products, including Windows 2003, and offer enterprise users a totally new approach to disaster recovery operations. Using a specially licensed version of 32-bit Windows technology, UBDR Pro and Gold eliminate the need to create disaster recovery media in advance of a server or workstation failure. This new software does away with the many challenges faced when using DOS for booting and recovering failed machines in today's post-DOS era.
UBDR Pro now uses a slick new boot CD that gives new meaning to the terms "old" and "new". Our "Old" DOS version was showing its age and customers were having difficulties in finding device drivers for purchased equipment even from major suppliers like Dell, Compaq and IBM. Our "New" version uses 32-bit Windows based technology and UltraBac's regular GUI instead of text based DOS. While UBDR Pro basically provides a speedy recovery of a failed machine, it completely eliminates the hassle of creating a bootable network DOS floppy using specific device drivers for each configuration. Now customers can boot from a universal CD that has everything they need to recover a "dead" machine.
UBDR Pro is available now with the ability to restore from any UNC network path and local tape. UBDR Gold (to be released later this summer) expands on the capabilities of UBDR Pro by offering backup functionality and providing additional disaster recovery options that include restoring from remote tape devices, Tivoli Storage Manager, and FTP devices. Both UBDR Pro and Gold are competitively priced, with features and performance superior to the competition. We also intend to implement another strategic feature that has been a requested and long overdue key function in restoring failed servers, so stay tuned for more announcements!
